A federal judge has ordered Brendan Dassey to remain in prison while an appeal against him is pending. Earlier this week, a Wisconsin judge ordered that Dassey be released from prison by this Friday at 8:00 p.m. Dassey, whose story was featured in the Netflix documentary series Making a Murderer, had his conviction overturned in August, reversing a 2007 life sentence for rape and murder for which he confessed but later recanted. A judge overturned the conviction because investigators made false promises and used controversial interrogation tactics without providing him with an adult counsel. Dassey was 17 at the time and had a learning disability.
