Paul McCartney has filed a lawsuit against Sony to regain ownership of the Beatles’ songs he co-wrote with John Lennon. Citing part of the U.S. Copyright Act of 1976 that allows songwriters to get copyrights back 56 years after a legal transfer of ownership, McCartney says he will reclaim rights in October 2018. According to legal documents cited by TMZ, the songs include “Love Me Do,” “All You Need Is Love,” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand”—all of which are currently in Sony’s catalog. McCartney had initially gotten the ball rolling on getting ownership of the songs back last March, but he decided to file a lawsuit when Sony put up resistance, TMZ reported.
