Report: Flynn ‘Denied’ Sanctions Talk in FBI Interview

Michael Flynn denied discussing U.S. sanctions with Russia’s ambassador in an interview with the FBI, current and former U.S. officials told The Washington Post on Thursday. U.S. officials reportedly maintain the former national security adviser did discuss sanctions with Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, based on intercepted communications. The allegation that Flynn misled federal agents during his Jan. 24 interview would constitute a felony offense, though a decision to prosecute Flynn rests with the Justice Department. Flynn and Trump have both denied for weeks that he discussed sanctions imposed by the Obama administration for election hacking before Trump and Flynn took office. Flynn resigned Monday night over the controversy and said afterward he didn’t discuss “sanctions” but rather the expulsion of Russian diplomats. CNN subsequently reported that the FBI is not expected to charge Flynn.
