Protesters Take to the Streets to Demand Trump’s Tax Returns

Thousands of protesters nationwide demanded that U.S. President Donald Trump release his tax returns on Saturday, with events planned in more than 100 cities. The demonstrations, organized by various labor groups and left-leaning organizations, were meant to call attention to the fact that Trump has refused to disclose his tax history, unlike his White House predecessors. The event was timed to coincide with the traditional deadline to file tax returns, April 15. While major U.S. cities like New York and Los Angeles had events planned, demonstrations were also scheduled to take place in London and Tokyo, as well as other international cities. The march in D.C. began at the U.S. Capitol, with hundreds of protesters wearing shirts depicting Trump as the Monopoly man. Others held signs comparing Trump to Richard Nixon, saying even Nixon has revealed his taxes. Protesters planned to wrap up their rally at the Lincoln Memorial in the afternoon, with demonstrators to pass Trump’s hotel during the march. The event was also expected to feature a line-up of speakers including Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) and Rep. Jamie B. Raskin (D-Md.).
