The congressional investigation into Russian meddling in the U.S. election has now expanded to include Michael Cohen, a personal attorney and close confidant to President Trump. Cohen told ABC News that House and Senate investigators have requested “information and testimony” about any contacts he had with Russians or Kremlin officials. Cohen said he turned down the invitation because it was “poorly phrased, overly broad and not capable of being answered.” Cohen—a longtime member of Trump’s inner-circle—is known as the president’s “pitbull” or “consigliere” for his unique part in threatening legal action against Trump critics and reporters. In 2015, he told The Daily Beast’s Tim Mak, “I will take you for every penny you still don’t have. And I will come after your Daily Beast and everybody else that you possibly know … So I’m warning you, tread very f—ing lightly, because what I’m going to do to you is going to be f—ing disgusting.”
