The City of Chicago is suing to block a Trump administration policy that would cut funding from so-called "sanctuary cities" that do not comply with federal immigration officials. The White House policy would require cities to give federal immigration authorities access to local jails, and to give these authorities 48 hours' notice before local law enforcement released anyone suspected of immigration violations. Cities that do not comply with the new policies are at risk of losing federal funding. "These new conditions also fly in the face of longstanding City policy that promotes cooperation between local law enforcement and immigrant communities," the city of Chicago wrote in the lawsuit filed Monday.
