After CNN Health supervising producer John Bonifield was caught on camera in one of James O'Keefe's Project Veritas sting videos, the network is defending him in a statement to The Daily Beast. “CNN stands by our medical producer John Bonifield,” a spokesperson said in an email. “Diversity of personal opinion is what makes CNN strong, we welcome it and embrace it.” In the video—which lit up conservative social media Tuesday morning with the hashtag #AmericanPravda—Bonifield, who works in company's medical unit and is not connected to CNN's political or investigative coverage, is seen calling the coverage of the Trump-Russia story "mostly bullshit" and suggesting the CNN president Jeff Zucker directed reporters to return to it after covering Trump's decision to pull out of the Paris climate accord. “I think the president is probably right to say, ‘Look, you are witch hunting me,’” he says in the hidden camera video. President Trump tweeted his reaction to the video and got a quick retort from CNN’s PR account.
