Deadliest Outbreak of Hepatitis A in Decades Kills 14 in San Diego

At least 14 people have died in San Diego in the deadliest U.S. outbreak of hepatitis A in decades, The Guardian reports. Nine of those deaths happened in the last six weeks. Of the 264 people who have been hospitalized since November, when the outbreak began, about 70 percent of those victims were homeless. In 2003, three people in Pennsylvania died of hepatitis A after eating contaminated salsa. A decade later, some 69 were hospitalized from infections linked to bad pomegranate seeds.
