Did Steven Spielberg Just Take a Sideswipe at Trump?

HE WHO MUST NOT BE NAMED

‘We are a nation of immigrants,’ Spielberg told Harvard’s graduates, ‘at least for now.’

Steven Spielberg may or may not have been throwing some shade at Donald Trump this week as he gave this year's commencement speech at Harvard University.

“We are a nation of immigrants-- at least for now,” Spielberg said (at the 9:32 mark), drawing laughter from Harvard’s newest graduates.

Nowhere in Spielberg’s speech did he mention Trump explicitly, so it’s open to interpretation whether he was making a sly reference to the Republican nominee’s anti-immigrant rhetoric.

But it sure seemed like it.

“A hero needs a villain to vanquish,” he added later (at 13:01). “And you’re all in luck. This world is full of monsters. And there’s racism, homophobia, ethnic hatred, class hatred, there’s political hatred, and there’s religious hatred.”
