ESPN Suspends Jemele Hill 2 Weeks for Unspecified Social-Media Violation

ESPN has suspended host Jemele Hill for two weeks over what the network described on Monday as an unspecified “second violation of our social media guidelines.” Hill drew national attention in September when she tweeted that President Trump was “a white supremacist who has surrounded himself with other white supremacists.” The White House responded by calling on ESPN to fire Hill. The sports outlet did not specify which of Hill’s posts had violated their guidelines, but on Sunday, Hill criticized Dallas Cowboys general manager Jerry Jones after he announced he would bench any players who kneels in protest during the national anthem. Hill “previously acknowledged letting her colleagues and company down with an impulsive tweet,” ESPN wrote in a statement. “In the aftermath, all employees were reminded of how individual tweets may reflect negatively on ESPN and that such actions would have consequences. Hence this decision.”
