Fox & Friends issued a rare on-air correction on Tuesday morning following a report about former FBI Director James Comey's personal memos that led directly to a tweet from President Donald Trump that accused him of "illegal" behavior. On Monday, the show used a report from The Hill to falsely claim that Comey leaked, through a friend, memos containing "top secret" information to The New York Times. In a brief comment on Tuesday's show, host Steve Doocy repeated the claim before adding, “We were mistaken in that. According to the report, half of the memos contained information classified at the secret or confidential level, not top secret." He did not acknowledge the fact that the show's false report was quickly retweeted by the president of the United States, who then added his own commentary to it, below.
