NPR has never been mistaken for Fox News, but Fresh Air host Terry Gross didn’t let Hillary Clinton off the hook when the potential presidential candidate wouldn’t give a straight answer about why she changed her mind about same-sex marriage. In an interview Thursday morning, Clinton and Gross went head to head for seven minutes. Asked whether she “made a calculus” by opposing gay marriage before she endorsed it last year, Clinton got defensive. “I think you’re trying to say I used to be opposed and now I’m in favor and I did it for political reasons, and that’s just flat wrong. So let me just state what I feel like you are implying and repudiate it.” Clinton said she “evolved” like President Obama and others say they have, but she believes the issue should be decided by the states.
