MSNBC’s Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski said Friday that President Trump’s White House staff threatened the pair with a possible National Enquirer hit piece if they didn’t apologize for negative coverage of him. In a tweet, Trump called accusations “fake news” and said he turned down the hosts’ request that he stop the alleged article from being published. “Yet another lie,” Scarborough tweeted Friday morning. “I have texts from your top aides and phone records. Also, those records show I haven’t spoken with you in many months.” Scarborough added in a follow-up tweet, “Why do you keep lying about things that are so easily disproven? What is wrong with you?” The exchange came a day after Trump launched personal attacks against the broadcasting couple and said he turned down requests to spend time with them around New Years, when he claimed Brzezinski was “bleeding badly from a face-lift.”
