Jenny Holzer is finally being appropriately honored with the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art’s Distinguished Women in the Arts award. Holzer began her career designing posters in New York City, where she still lives and works, in the 1970s and has since gone on to become internationally renowned. Following a ceremony on April 28 in Beverly Hills, her work will be displayed at the West Coast museum. MOCA’s CEO called Holzer “a brilliant artist, who has created powerful statements of conviction and social commentary for more than three decades.” The artist herself actually designed the bronze plaque award to all Distinguished Women in the Arts award winners, featuring her own sage advise, “It is in your self-interest to find a way to be very tender.”
