The U.S. Navy is ordering an investigation of its Pacific fleet after it experienced two collisions in the past three months, Defense Secretary James Mattis told reporters on Monday while traveling in Jordan. Also, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson is ordering a rare one-day operational pause across the entire Navy, CNN reported. The safety pause will go into effect over the next few weeks at the discretion of individual commanders. On Sunday the USS John S. McCain collided with a merchant vessel near Singapore and the Strait of Malacca, leaving ten sailors missing and five others hurt. Seven sailors died in June when the USS Fitzgerald collided with a container ship off the coast of Japan.
