The development marks an important step in the Hermit Kingdom’s ability to become a full-fledged nuclear power. The U.S. calculated that North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un now has as many as 60 nuclear weapons, though some independent experts say the number is smaller. Pyongyang’s nuclear program is developing much more rapidly than U.S. officials had initially believed when the country tested its first nuclear detonation more than a decade ago.
