The suspect in the attack on a mosque in Quebec City was identified Monday as Alexandre Bissonnette, 27, the Associated Press reported. Initially two names were given to media by a court clerk, but police officials later backtracked and said there is only one suspect and that the other person, Mohamed el Khadir, was a witness. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the mass shooting “a terrorist attack on Muslims.” According to witnesses, the attacker wore a ski mask before opening fire on worshippers on Sunday night, killing six people and injuring eight others.
Bissonnette was charged with six counts of first degree murder and five counts of attempted murder, a Quebec court announced Monday night.
