Special Counsel Robert Mueller is examining whether President Donald Trump attempted to obstruct justice, The Washington Post reports, calling it a “major turning point” in the FBI investigation into Russia’s alleged meddling in the 2016 presidential election. The obstruction of justice probe began days after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey on May 9, according to the newspaper, and the special counsel’s office “has now taken up that work.” The Post also quoted officials as saying investigators are searching for “evidence of possible financial crimes among Trump associates.” A spokesman for Trump’s personal lawyer, Marc Kasowitz, told the paper, “The FBI leak of information regarding the president is outrageous, inexcusable, and illegal.”
