President Trump on Wednesday introduced with several GOP senators a bill aimed at slashing legal immigration levels by 50 percent. Standing along side Republican Sens. David Perdue and Tom Cotton, Trump gave his approval to the Reforming American Immigration for a Strong Economy (RAISE) Act, which looks to revamp the “outdated” current immigration system allowing citizens to bring family members to the U.S. with work visas, and instead cut immigration by half while prioritizing highly skilled immigrants. “This would be the most significant reform to the immigration system in half a century,” said Trump during the announcement. “It is a historic and very vital proposal.”
