Roy Moore, the former Republican judge running to take Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ old Senate seat suggested earlier this year that the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks might have been God’s punishment against the United States, a CNN investigation has found. Moore, who will face incumbent Alabama Sen. Luther Strange in a GOP primary runoff, said during a February speech that God was angry at the U.S. because “we legitimize sodomy” and “legitimize abortion.” The disgraced Alabama Supreme Court chief justice quoted an Old Testament verse about a wall crumbling after people rejected the word of God. “Sounds a little bit like the Pentagon, whose breaking came suddenly at an instance, doesn’t it?” Moore said.
