Top Republican senators on Sunday immediately mocked President Donald Trump’s suggestion that he could work with Russia on cybersecurity matters. “Putin & I discussed forming an impenetrable Cyber Security unit so that election hacking, & many other negative things, will be guarded and safe,” Trump tweeted. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, responded on Twitter: “Partnering with Putin on a ‘Cyber Security Unit’ is akin to partnering with Assad on a ‘Chemical Weapons Unit.’” South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, who has been very critical of Trump on his tweeting habits and foreign affairs generally, said on Meet the Press that working with Putin to combat cyber crimes is “pretty close” to “the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard.”
