Environmental Protection Agency chief Scott Pruitt on Tuesday said he was “dumbfounded” that his decision to rent a room in a townhouse owned by an energy lobbyist is controversial. “I’ve had ethics counsel here at the agency, the office of general counsel and ethics officials review the lease. They’ve actually looked at the lease. Most of the people who are criticizing me haven’t,” Pruitt told the Washington Examiner. He said Washington is a “toxic” place where people “will resort to anything” to stop President Trump’s agenda. Pruitt is facing mounting pressure to resign, but the White House is standing by the embattled EPA chief for now.
