The Senate on Tuesday overwhelmingly confirmed Christopher Wray to be the next FBI director, by a vote of 92 to 5. During Wray’s confirmation hearing, many Democrats indicated they were satisfied with his pledges to be independent from the president, and the Senate Judiciary Committee voted unanimously to send Wray’s nomination to the full Senate floor. Trump set off a firestorm on Capitol Hill when he abruptly fired James Comey in May, later saying he did so because of the pressure he was under for the federal Russia investigation.
