Former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio said this week that he would gladly accept a pardon from President Trump for his guilty conviction in a contempt-of-court case. “Whatever the president wants me to do, I would support him,” Arpaio told The Arizona Republic earlier this week. “If he needs help with anything, of course I’m going to help him.” The former Maricopa County sheriff and Trump share a notoriously hardline stance on immigration; the sheriff introduced the future president at multiple events last year; and the pair appear to share a warm relationship. However, Arpaio added, “I’m not going to ask him” about a pardon. “I’m very careful. I don’t go around bragging,” he added, when asked about whether he’s spoken to Trump since inauguration. Arpaio faces up to six months in jail.
