The “combustible” cladding that contributed to the speed of the deadly fire at London’s Grenfell Tower last week may be on a number of other British tower blocks, Prime Minister Theresa May said Thursday. Seventy-nine people were killed in the June 14 blaze that spread through the 24-story high-rise, and seven others have the adornments on their surfaces. “[We] should of course be careful on speculating what caused this fire, but as a precaution the government has arranged to test cladding on all relevant tower blocks,” May told Parliament. “Shortly before I came to the chamber, I was informed that a number of these tests have come back as combustible.” Fire officials and local authorities have been informed about which buildings may be at risk and have been tasked with letting residents know.
