“Let Obamacare fail, it will be a lot easier,” President Trump said Tuesday afternoon following the failure of his preferred repeal-and-replace plan and the news that Mitch McConnell’s repeal-only plan has also failed. “We’ll let Obamacare fail. We’re not going to own it. I’m not going to own it. I can tell you the Republicans are not going to own it. We’ll let Obamacare fail and then the Democrats are going to come to us.” Additionally, the president expressed disappointment in his party’s inability to get the job done, but took credit for the tight Republican vote margin. “We had no Democrat support,” he said. “[T]he vote would have been, if you look at it, 48-4. That’s a pretty impressive vote by any standard.”
