While celebrating the passage of the GOP’s tax-overhaul bill Wednesday, President Trump on told House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) that the congressman’s being shot and nearly killed by a gunman earlier this year was “a hell of a way to lose weight.” While speaking from the Rose Garden at the White House, Trump addressed key members of Congress who got tax reform passed. “Steve Scalise, he’s braver than all of us,” the president said. “He had a rougher year than most of us. But it’s a hell of a way to lose weight, Steve. Not a good way. We love you, Steve. Great job.” Scalise spent a month in the hospital, “nearly dying,” after being shot during congressional baseball practice back in June. He endured multiple surgeries to battle infections and repair organs and bones destroyed by the gunfire.
