In an interview with The New York Times, President Donald Trump said he would not have chosen Jeff Sessions to be attorney general if he knew that Sessions would recuse himself from all matters relating to the federal Russia investigations. “Sessions should have never recused himself and if he was going to recuse himself he should have told me before he took the job and I would have picked somebody else,” Trump said, lamenting that Sessions’ recusal led to the naming of a special counsel to oversee the investigation. He went on to call the decision “extremely unfair,” and said Sessions “gave some bad answers” during his confirmation testimony in January when he said he did not meet with Russians before it was later revealed that he did.
