An 11-year-old boy was charged with manslaughter Wednesday after allegedly fatally shooting his 14-year-old friend, according to a Friday report from the Associated Press. The tragedy took place when the 14-year-old Jadon Vaughn visited the 11-year-old and his brother, and the boys’ parents went out for the night. The boys started to wrestle, deputies said, and the unnamed 11-year-old went to his parents’ room to grab their pistol. While he removed the magazine from the gun, deputies added, one round remained in the chamber—which fired when he aimed the gun at Vaughn. It was not clear if the 11-year-old knew there was a round in the chamber. Detectives added that the brothers initially tried to justify Vaughn’s death by claiming that he had threatened them with a knife, but that they eventually admitted that they had placed the knife next to his body after he died.
