Approximately 145.5 million Equifax customers may have been affected by the company's data breach—2.5 million more than previously reported, Equifax announced Monday. “I was advised Sunday that the analysis of the number of consumers potentially impacted by the cybersecurity incident has been completed, and I directed that the results be promptly released,” Equifax interim CEO Paulino do Rego Barros, Jr. said in a statement. The company’s previous CEO “retired” last week. It was revealed that he knew of the breach three weeks before alerting Equifax’s board. The 2.5 million additional affected customers will receive notices of the breach in the mail, Barros said.
