7-Year-Old Boy Finds Gun in Backpack

A 7-year-old boy in west Philadelphia was putting a folder in his backpack at the end of the school day Thursday when he discovered a gun. The boy alerted a teacher overseeing an after-school program at Universal Samuel Daroff Charter School to the .38-caliber handgun loaded with five rounds of ammunition. Police are talking to the boy’s family and watching the school’s security videos to find out how the gun made its way into the backpack—which the boy said he had with him in class all day.
