A Princess in Dubai Seemingly Divorced Her Husband on Instagram

Sheikha Mahra bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, a princess in Dubai and daughter of the country’s prime minister, took to Instagram this week to divorce her husband. The post, a black screen with white text, reads: “Dear Husband, As you are occupied with other companions, I hereby declare our divorce. I divorce you, I divorce you, and I Divorce you.” She signed the message “your ex-wife.” As of Wednesday, the post has over 168,000 likes. According to the BBC, the three-phrase repetition is triple talaq, a now illegal practice wherein men could instantly divorce their wives by saying “talaq” three times. According to the outlet, the account appears to have been scrubbed of any photos with her husband, Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum, who she married in April 2023 and shares one child with. He also removed photos of her from his social media. Since posting, her comments have been flooded with supporters praising her strength and boldness.
