A Woman Has Been Charged with Murdering Her Husband By Putting Eye Drops in His Water

A South Carolina woman has been charged with murder and unlawful malicious tampering of food after she allegedly admitted to killing her husband by putting eye drops in his water over several days, according to a report from the Associated Press. Prosecutors claim that between July 19 and July 21 of 2018, 52-year-old Lana Sue Clayton poisoned her 64-year-old husband Steven by spiking his water with the drops. Steven died on July 21, and an autopsy revealed lethal levels of tetrahydrozoline—a chemical found in over-the-counter drops—in his body. When confronted by investigators, Clayton confessed to putting the drops in her husband's water without his knowledge. The York County Sheriff’s Office said the case is still under investigation, and no motive has been released.
