A federal judge declared illegal on Friday a North Carolina law that required women who wanted an abortion to first have an ultrasound and then have a medical provider describe the image to them. U.S. District Judge Catherine Eagles ruled that the law is a violation of constitutional free-speech rights because states do not have the right to force health care providers to bear an “ideological message in favor of carrying a pregnancy to term.”
