Marie Collins, a leading member of the group advising Pope Francis on how to handle the problem of sexual assault in the Catholic Church, left the establishment on Wednesday over what she said was a "shameful" resistance within the Vatican. Collins was the last remaining survivor of priestly abuse on the commission. The pope has been repeatedly criticized for not doing enough about the ongoing issue. "The lack of cooperation, particularly by the dicastery most closely involved in dealing with cases of abuse, has been shameful," Collins said in a statement. "It is devastating in 2017 to see that these men still can put other concerns before the safety of children and vulnerable adults."
