The Academy announced some major changes to the Oscars on Wednesday. In a tweet, the Academy revealed there will now be an award for “achievement in popular film,” a “more globally accessible” telecast that’s about three hours, and an earlier date for the 2020 ceremony, February 9. The 2018 ceremony was the least-watched Oscars telecast in history, with about 26.5 million viewers tuning in.
