Adam Lambert returned to American Idol Tuesday to coach the season’s final nine contestants. He’s the first alumnus of the show ever to do so. Lambert coached the singers on how to improve their performances on the show’s Elvis night, and early reviews suggest the critics appreciated seeing him return to the program. He pushed some contestants to work harder, and did not pull punches when it came to Andrew Garcia’s seeming inability to capture Elvis’ voice in his painful attempt at “Hound Dog.” Lambert also successfully goaded Katie Stevens into throwing her frustration with the critics into her performance. Lambert’s gig is not all just mentoring, however, as he’s set to perform his song “Whataya Want From Me” on Wednesday's results show.
