Afghanistan's military has trouble keeping tabs on hundreds of the thousands of weapons America gave it. According to a report from the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, an untold number of the 747,000 weapons and equipment given to them by the U.S. military are missing, including more than 900 from the main depot alone. SIGAR found that the Afghan National Security Forces kept such bad records of the supplies that it was impossible to do a proper inspection. "[T]here is a real potential for these weapons to fall into the hands of insurgents, which will pose additional risks to U.S. personnel, the ANSF, and Afghan civilians,” the report stated.
