Alex van der Zwaan was sentenced to 30 days in jail after pleading guilty in February for lying to federal agents. He is the first to be sentenced in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. Van der Zwaan, former lawyer and son-in-law of a Russian oligarch, also lied to federal investigators about his interactions with former Trump campaign aide Rick Gates. He also lied about the timing of his interactions with a “Person A,” and lying about his part in producing “a report on the trial of former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.”
