Perhaps the first professional athlete ever to successfully complete an internship at a fashion magazine, Sean Avery is not your average NHL star. The Canadian ice-hockey player has garnered endless attention (and even engendered a New Line Cinema-approved screenplay based on his sartorial pursuits) thanks to his stint at Vogue last year and subsequent frequent appearances at Fashion Week. (Avery even dated Calvin Klein's ex, Kelly, for some time.) As for his personal style: The New York Post recently spotted the New York Rangers star at fashion photographer Steven Klein's birthday party sporting a questionable " tight black shirt, thick glasses, and wide-legged swishy black pants".

Tom Brady's fashion cred is as much the result of association as it is the product of his own personal style. Having recently married Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen, whom the New England Patriots quarterback had been dating for two years, Brady has been granted the kind of access into the fashion world that only an uberfamous last name or a seat at the helm of a leading fashion magazine can buy. But that's not to say Brady hasn't done his own share of modeling: He graced the cover of GQ not once but twice (and was named one of "The 50 Most Stylish Men of The Past 50 Years") and he appeared on the cover of Best Life in 2007, an issue for which he donned a new line from Tom Ford's namesake collection. Brady also accompanied Bundchen to Vogue's annual Costume Gala this week at New York's Metropolitan Museum for the second year in a row.

Professional soccer player David Beckham is famous the world over thanks to an illustrious career that began at Manchester United and most recently landed the midfielder on leave from Los Angeles Galaxy to play for Italian Serie A club Milan. Off the field, Beckham has made a name for himself in the fashion industry as well. His wife, Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham, may have played muse to Marc Jacobs and taken up designing in her own time; but David has disrobed for Armani underwear ads on more than one occasion and just announced the his premiere designing endeavor. Beckham has "collaborated with James Bond, owner of the Undefeated sneaker-freak boutiques, on a fall-winter men's collection for Adidas Originals by Originals," says Women's Wear Daily. The collection will include sneakers, leather, cashmere, and silk, as well as thermal layering pieces and accessories.

In the tennis world, Bjorn Borg is one of the greatest players in the game's history. The Swedish star won an astonishing 11 Grand Slam singles titles in a seven-year span. But, within the fashion industry, Borg is equally as revered for his namesake line of sportswear, which was created under the Fila umbrella just over 15 years ago. Today, the fashion line has expanded to include clothing, footwear, accessories, fragrances, and eyewear. In other words, the sports star has successfully transitioned from acclaimed athlete to proprietor of a largely successful international fashion empire.

The only professional male athlete to appear on the cover of Vogue, Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James was handpicked by Anna Wintour to appear alongside Tom Brady's better half, Gisele Bundchen last year. This year's NBA MVP also posed for the cover of GQ in February of this year, looking sharp as ever, tie clip and all. And the 24-year-old James' sartorial involvement doesn't stop at posing for magazine spreads. Last September, he surfaced in the front row at Ralph Lauren's New York Fashion Week show, wearing a light purple collared shirt and matching purple socks.

If there is one person that everyone in the fashion industry wants as their advocate, it's Vogue's Anna Wintour. And, whether he was looking for it, that's exactly what tennis star Roger Federer has received. Wintour is an enormous fan of the Swiss singles player (one of the greats in the history of the sport), and she's made no attempt to hide her fandom (even cracking a wide smile when taking in a Federer match). And the association has paid off for Federer with regard to garnering insider's access to the fashion industry. Back in 2006, Federer sat front row alongside Wintour at Marc Jacobs' New York Fashion Week presentation, and he did so again in 2008 at Oscar de la Renta's show. Rumor also has it Wintour has played a role in the past in dressing Federer; not to mention placing him on the May/June 2007 cover of Men's Vogue.

Following in the footsteps of Sean Avery is none other than NFL linebacker Stewart Bradley. When he's not playing for the Philadelphia Eagles, the Utah-born and bred Bradley interns at Elle. Bradley has been working under Elle's Creative Director Joe Zee with the self-proclaimed intention of broadening his knowledge of the fashion industry. And, according to Bradley's recent blog posts for the magazine’s Web site, he seems to be doing just that. Of his first Fashion Week experience, Bradley says: "Not being a master fashionista, I learned an incredible amount, though I admit I was probably overly awed by the glitz and glam of the events and parties, not to mention the impressively loud music and synchronized lighting of the runway."

Swedish soccer star Freddie Ljungberg has not quite as famous a reputation as David Beckham, but he has just as much sartorial influence. The Seattle Sounders FC player moonlights as a professional fashion model. Like Beckham, he was the face of an underwear line—Calvin Klein's—until 2007. Ljungberg's good looks have also landed him on the cover of Out magazine, in addition to endorsement deals with the likes of Nike, L'Oreal, and Puma.

Belgrade-born Marko Jaric plays for the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies and his fashion weight comes by way of his wife, Brazilian model Adriana Lima, whom he wed this year on Valentine's Day. Lima is best known for being a Victoria Secret Angel since 2000. She's also acted as Maybelline's spokesmodel since 2003. While Jaric hasn't exactly pursued his own fashion portfolio in the same way, say, Tom Brady has, there's no doubt his being married to Lima will open quite a few fashion doors in the future.

Rather than earn his real-world fashion experience posing for or interning at magazines, professional Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo is doing it by way of two boutiques. The winger for both Manchester United and the Portuguese national team—and reigning World Player of the Year—owns two clothing shops called CR7 along with one of his sisters. So far the family fashion business includes outposts only in Portugal: one in Lisbon and in Madiera. CR7 stocks Ronaldo's designs, which includes the likes of jeans outfitted with leather pockets, studded belts and patent buckled loafers—all of which are embellished with a not-so-subtle gold tag that reads CR7.
