Amanda Bynes has opened up about her struggle with drugs and how substances fueled her downward spiral off-screen in a new interview with Paper magazine. Bynes, now 32, said she started smoking marijuana as a teenager and later began experimenting with molly, ecstasy, and cocaine. After adding Adderall into the mix in 2007, she said her career began to take a plunge. Bynes said “being so high that I couldn’t remember my lines” and her unhappiness with her appearance fueled her to quit the movie Hall Pass and retire from acting after Easy A’s 2010 release. She described watching Easy A while high, which she said prompted a “drug-induced psychosis” that “absolutely changed [her] perception of things.” After she announced her retirement on Twitter, she said she was “stoned all day long” and it was “like an alien had literally invaded my body.” “I’m really ashamed and embarrassed with the things I said. I can’t turn back time but if I could, I would,” Bynes said. “Everything I worked my whole life to achieve, I kind of ruined it all through Twitter,” she said. Now almost four years sober, Bynes told the magazine she will work towards her bachelor’s degree at Fashion Institute of Design in January.
