Amber Heard said Thursday she would donate her $7 million divorce settlement from Johnny Depp to charity. “As described in the restraining order and divorce settlement, money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves,” Heard said in a statement, referencing her domestic-violence claims against Depp. The couple’s divorce came after the actress accused Depp of repeatedly violently assaulting her, with photos of her bruised face going public after what she said was the latest attack. As part of the divorce settlement, she withdrew her allegations and dropped her bid for a restraining order. She said she plans to donate half of the settlement to the American Civil Liberties Union, “with a particular focus to stop violence against women,” and to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, where she has worked as a volunteer for many years.
