Another potential bombshell, reporting-heavy book peeking inside the Trump administration is set to hit the shelves this summer.
Politico correspondent Tim Alberta, who has spent years covering the Republican Party, is set to publish American Carnage: On the Front Lines of the Republican Civil War and the Rise of President Trump, which will include new reporting about the decade-long battle within the GOP leading up to and through the Trump presidency, according to an advance description of the book shared with The Daily Beast.
“American Carnage is the story of a president’s rise based on a country’s evolution and a party’s collapse,” reads the press release.

“Only by viewing Trump as the culmination of a decade-long civil war inside the GOP—and of the parallel sense of cultural, socioeconomic, and technological disruption during that period—can we appreciate how he won the White House and consider the fundamental questions at the center of America’s current turmoil,” it continues.
The book, due July 23 from HarperCollins, will chronicle the transformation of the GOP from its Bush-era, hawkish neoconservative iteration to its current Trump-worshipping right-wing populist bent, with a focus on the power struggles between the party’s leaders, and how they’ve reacted to the rise of Trump.
The book’s publisher expects the White House reporting focusing on Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, and others to make significant news and shed light on how party leaders have privately felt and acted towards the president during crucial moments.
Alberta’s reporting is based off “hundreds of exclusive interviews,” the publisher said, “including with key players such as President Trump, Paul Ryan, Ted Cruz, John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, Jim DeMint, and Reince Priebus, among many others.”
Trump’s election sparked demand for political nonfiction, particularly books peeling back the curtain on the chaotic infighting between various factions within the Republican Party. Michael Wolff’s Fire & Fury, Bob Woodward’s Fear: Inside The Trump White House, and Joshua Green’s Devil’s Bargain all topped best-seller lists with juicy insider details about chaotic leadership in the Trump-era GOP.
