Just a few days into the holiday weekend, American Sniper has already shattered box office records. Currently sitting at $90.2 million in ticket sales nation-wide, the Oscar-nominated film is anticipated to annihilate records for both Martin Luther King weekend and the month of January at $105 million. “The movie has become a cultural phenomenon,” Dan Fellman, head of domestic distribution at Warner Bros., said. “It tore apart the record book and not by a little. By an enormous amount.” The film had a $60 million budget. Clint Eastwood, who directed the film, has not seen a record breaking weekend since his 2008 Gran Torinio, which brought in $29.5 million.
