An American is believed to have been killed by an isolated Indian island tribe that has a reputation for attacking outsiders with bows and arrows, police said Wednesday. The tribe on North Sentinel Island resists all contact with outsiders, often attacking anyone who comes near, and is virtually untouched by modern civilization, the Associated Press reports. Seven fishermen have reportedly been arrested for helping to arrange the American’s visit to the island where the killing is said to have happened Saturday. Indian media reports said the American, named as John Allen Chau, was a missionary and his body was found with arrows in it by fishermen, but police said they were in the process of recovering the body. Police have not revealed any further details of the alleged killing. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a group of islands at the juncture of the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea.
