At the Los Angeles premiere of The Hangover Part II, the comedic romp’s breakout star—a monkey named Crystal—cuddled up with actress Kristen Bell. Crystal stole the spotlight on the red carpet in her pearl necklace and pale pink halter dress, but this isn’t the first time she’s gotten attention. Her simulated fellatio scene caused the film’s trailer to be yanked from theaters and she was also the subject of a cigarette smoking controversy.

Forget a stretch limo. Rapper T-Pain showed up to the 2008 Video Music Awards on an elephant dressed in gold and wearing a cross, led by a marching band, juggling little person, krump dancers, and a lady on stilts. “This is Tai. This is my baby. This is my beautiful woman,” T-Pain told MTV VJ John Norris of the mammal who would go on to become the star of the 2011 film Water for Elephants. “Our first ever elephant at the VMA Awards,” Norris confirmed to the fans watching.

Emma Thompson showed up at the London premiere of Nanny McPhee Returns in March 2010 with a curly haired swine companion named Scarlett that appeared in the film. Though the pig was reportedly a handful, later that year, Thompson again posed with a tiny piglet when she got her star on the Hollywood Boulevard outside the legendary Pig ‘N Whistle pub.

Though he was known for his role in The Fast and the Furious franchise, action star Vin Diesel’s career took a softer turn. He starred in the 2005 family film The Pacifier alongside Parenthood’s Lauren Graham and a duck named Gary, who attended the Hollywood premiere. Diesel starred as a Navy SEAL hired to protect a top-secret government agent’s children and their pet duck, who winds up nibbling on his ear.

Consistent period actress Keira Knightley is usually paired with charming men on screen. But for the big-screen take on King Arthur, which premiered in London in July 2004, the star posed with a different type of stallion.

At the premiere of Moto X Kids, recent Celebrity Apprentice star Gary Busey picked up his co-star Cody the Chimp from the 2004 film about motocross coach Evan Harson’s (Lorenzo Lamas) attempt to save a local dirt track from Busey’s character Viper’s motorcycle gang, who want to take over the land from kids who ride there. Some way or another, a chimpanzee fits in there.

For the launch of her ninth album 20 Y.O. in 2006, Janet Jackson celebrated with a slithery guest at Tao in Las Vegas’ Venetian Hotel. It matched the gold and diamond studded version on her wrist and helped distract from her bizarre hooded dress.

She may star in The Beaver, but Jodie Foster mingled with another creature at the 2008 Australian premiere of her family film Nim’s Island. At Aussie Sea World, Foster walked the red carpet with a pelican, who was just one of the movie’s many South Pacific animals, which included a sea lion with a flatulence problem.

While filming the 2005 action-comedy adventure Sahara, Spanish stunner Penelope Cruz met her former boyfriend Matthew McConaughey. However, instead of posing with the actor at Sahara’s Hollywood premiere, Cruz was caught canoodling with a camel who also starred in the film and who the actress reportedly rode in the desert after the cameras stopped rolling.
