Anita Hill on Kavanaugh Allegations: Still ‘Incredibly Difficult’ for Accusers

Anita Hill, one of the first women to accuse a Supreme Court nominee of sexual harassment nearly three decades ago, has spoken out on recent allegations against President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh. In a statement issued Friday hours after Kavanaugh was accused of trying to force himself on a woman several decades ago, Hill said accusers still face an uphill battle. “The reluctance of someone to come forward demonstrates that even in the #MeToo era, it remains incredibly difficult to report harassment, abuse or assault by people in power,” she said. “I have seen firsthand what happens when such a process is weaponized against an accuser, and no one should have to endure that again,” she said. Hill, who testified about alleged sexual harassment by then-Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas in 1991, called on the government to find a “fair and neutral way” for abuse allegations against people in power to be investigated.
