Anne Hathaway is saying sorry to an interviewer almost 12 years after their awkward conversation. On Saturday, celebrity interviewer Kjersti Flaa posted a video on her YouTube channel talking about a bad experience she had while interviewing the Oscar winner back in 2012 during a Les Miserables press tour. Flaa had asked Hathaway’s co-stars Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe to sing their answers to her since the film was adapted from a musical, which they were happy to do. However, when Flaa asked Hathaway if she would sing her responses, she said, “Well, I won’t be doing that, but you’re more than welcome to sing.” Things continued to be tense, with the actress giving one-word answers. In a follow-up video Tuesday, Flaa revealed she received an email from Hathaway’s publicist relaying a message from the star. In it, Flaa says Hathaway elaborated on “what she was going through right then when she did this interview, and she apologized for being… giving me an awful interview basically.” Flaa called the gesture “touching,” and it made her “almost teary-eyed.” The journalist, who captured headlines after a similarly awkward interview with actress Blake Lively, didn’t read the message aloud but called it “personal” and said Hathaway invited her to conduct another interview when The Princess Diaries star’s newest movie comes out.
