The hacking collective Anonymous seems to have reconsidered the wisdom of attacking Mexico’s deadly Zetas drug cartel. After security company Stratfor warned that the cartel is hiring security experts to track the hackers down, two members of “Operation Cartel” announced they won’t continue with their plan to expose Zeta collaborators. But violent retribution wasn’t the only problem with the plan. Several Anonymous members have raised doubts that the alleged kidnapping of an Anonymous member, which sparked the operation, ever happened. Finally, there was the concern that anyone Anonymous fingered as a collaborator, no matter how sound the evidence, would be hunted by rival cartels.
