A record 63.5° Fahrenheit temperature was recorded at Esperanza base in Antarctica, the United Nations’ weather agency said on Wednesday. The Argentinian research base, located near the northernmost tip of Antarctica’s Trinity Peninsula, set the high temperature on March 24, 2015, according to the World Meteorogical Organization’s review of climate data from the frozen continent. According to Reuters, “The heat record for the broader Antarctic region, defined as anywhere south of 60 degrees latitude, was 19.8°C (67.6°F) on Jan. 30, 1982 on Signy Island in the South Atlantic.”
